Erling Haaland has followed in his dad’s footsteps by signing for Manchester City.
The Norwegian striker officially completed his £51.2 million transfer to the Premier League champions from Borussia Dortmund on Monday.
Haaland signs for City 22 years after his father, Alf-Inge, joined the club. The retired midfielder spent three years on City’s books before leaving the club in 2003.
Man City have released a 14-minute video showing the younger Haaland undergoing various medical assessments in the weeks prior to being announced.
The video also shows the 21-year-old meeting staff at the Etihad Stadium for the first time.
However, it’s a clip of Alf-Inge telling a top-tier dad joke that’s going viral on social media.
Erling hands his dad a City shirt with ‘Son’ on the back. Why? Because a photo exists of City’s new striker as a youngster wearing an old City shirt with ‘Dad’ on the back.
Make sense?
After receiving the shirt, Alf-Inge joked: “But he doesn’t play for City!”
This amused Erling, who replied: “Heung-min Son doesn’t play for City!”
You can’t beat a bit of dad banter.
