Norway striker Erling Haaland claims he was involved in a feisty verbal altercation with Sweden’s Alexander Milošević on Sunday night.

Haaland scored twice as Norway won 2-1 at Stockholm’s Friends Arena in the Uefa Nations League, with Anthony Elanga netting a late consolation for the hosts.

And the new Manchester City striker revealed afterwards why it was a particularly sweet victory for him personally.

“First he [Milošević] called me a bitch, I can say for sure that I am not,” Haaland told Norwegian channel TV2 after the game.

“Secondly, he said he was going to break my legs. A minute-and-a-half later I scored. That was good,” he added.

But Milošević – who plays his club football for Allsvenskan side AIK – offered a rather different version of events.

“I did not say that,” the defender insisted.

“It is quite rude to say what he says, because I do not speak Norwegian and he does not speak Swedish, so I do not know how we have communicated. I do not speak English on the pitch, so it’s strange that he says things that I haven’t said.”

Haaland is in fine form at the moment having also netted the only goal of the game in Norway’s win over Serbia on Thursday, and his brace against Sweden means he has now scored 18 goals in 19 matches for his country.
