Ajax displaced PSV to move back into first place in the Eredivisie after their 2-1 away victory at the Philips Stadion on Sunday.
Goals from Ajax’s Brian Brobbey and Noussair Mazraoui on either side of a Mario Götze equaliser gave the defending champions a big win in the title race.
The two Dutch giants have interchanged positions at the top of the table repeatedly this season and Ajax manager Erik ten Hag is wary of the threat the Eindhoven side pose.
“We have to realise that we always have to play with this energy and spirit, because in the Eredivisie you can afford few mistakes,” the 51-year-old said after the game.
“After all, both Ajax and PSV normally win their matches.”
According to the Dutch manager, being in the ascendency is crucial in such a tight battle.
“We have to make sure we keep the wheel in our hands,” he said.
“A draw also means losing and then you will eventually fall behind. We had that in a phase and now we have it in our own hands again. It should stay that way.”
Ajax return to action against Heracles on the first Sunday of February after the international break.
