As Florian Plettenberg and Patrick Berger reported, Erik ten Hag remains a potential successor to Nuri Şahin at Borussia Dortmund.

BVB are winless in their last three Bundesliga matches and could sack Şahin should the team lose to Bologna in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Should this occur, Dortmund bosses have already made loose contact with ten Hag, who can envision himself becoming Dortmund’s head coach.

However, before this can happen, the former Manchester United boss would need some guarantees.

Firstly, ten Hag does not see himself as a “firefighter” solution and would not accept a six-month contract.

Rather, the 54-year-old would want a long-term deal with Dortmund to build for long-term success.

Additionally, should BVB opt for ten Hag, they would be required to pay a severance payment to Man Utd.

In addition to making loose contact with the Dutchman, Dortmund are also considering the option of former Benfica boss Roger Schmidt.
