Ajax are having yet another strong display in the Champions League and qualified for the Round of 16 after their recent 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund.
After the victory, manager Erik ten Hag admitted his side wasn’t at their best in the opening half but applauded their ‘resiliency’ to turn things around.
”The first half was mediocre, we didn’t read the game well and let Dortmund come into their own,” said Ten Hag on the performance.
“That wasn’t convenient. And certainly not if you come up against ten men, then it must not happen that you fall behind.
“You know that the referee can compensate after a red card. Unfortunately, we then conceded a penalty.”
Trailing at the break, the Dutch giants then ramped up the pressure in the second half.
”I have to compliment them for our game after half-time. We showed our resilience and played more patiently and smarter,” said Ten Hag.
The 51-year-old then went on to highlight the performance of Davy Klaassen who made an immediate impact after coming off the bench at half-time.
“We created opportunities and took advantage of them. Davy also came in well, guarded the break, and played well between the lines. And he also scored.”
Coming up next, Ajax face Beşiktaş at Vodafone Park in their next Champions League group stage match on 24 November.
