Erik ten Hag was critical of his Ajax side’s failure to finish off Heerenveen before half time on Saturday.

Sébastien Haller continued his superb scoring form by netting the opener at Abe Lenstra Stadion, but it took until the 75th minute for substitute David Neres to secure the three points for the visitors.

“It should have been over after the first half,” ten Hag said afterwards, per De Telegraaf.

“I saw a dominant Ajax in the first half. Heerenveen played compact. Nevertheless, we played through it.

“We should have made two or three more, then it’s done. Now we kept them alive.”

The hosts had good chances to draw level after the break, which forced the Ajax boss to reconfigure his charges.

“We were overrun in midfield. When I moved Jurriën Timber to midfield and Lisandro Martínez came into the team, we regained control.”

The win helped the Amsterdam giants stay one point clear of PSV at the top of the Eredivisie table.
