England knocked Spain out of EURO U21 after a 3-1 win in Trnava to set up a semi-final clash with the Netherlands.

Lee Carsley's side were taking on one of the tournament favourites but were 2-0 up within the first 15 minutes after a superb start.

Alex Scott sent in a corner from the left that eventually fell to James McAtee with the Manchester City man finishing past goalkeeper Alejandro Iturbe with 10 minutes gone.

The second goal came five minutes later as Spain were caught out in midfield with Jarell Quansah driving forward and having a driven effort that was palmed away but only into the path of his teammate Harvey Elliott.

Spain pulled one back from the penalty spot when Quansah was penalised for a trip on Alberto Moleiro after England had given the ball away.

Javi Guerra's staggered run-up was enough to send James Beadle the wrong way with the Valencia man then slotting the ball into the net.

England managed to keep Spain at bay for the second half and wrapped up the win from the spot in stoppage time.

Jonathan Rowe was played in over the top with Iturbe taking him out leading to Elliot Anderson putting the ball away to ensure England's progression.
