FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via a media update from The Football Association this afternoon.
The match will provisionally take place in the Sunshine Coast resort in Australia on Friday 14 July. Further details will be provided in due course, however, it has been confirmed that the game will be played behind-closed-doors.
England kick-off their FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 campaign with a fixture against group minnows Haiti in Brisbane on Saturday 22 July. The Lionesses will then take on Denmark in Sydney on Friday 28 July before ending their group stage campaign with a fixture against China in Adelaide on Tuesday 1 August.
Friendly opponents Canada have been placed in a group alongside tournament co-hosts Australia, the Republic of Ireland and Nigeria.
England and Canada have met on several occasions over the years. The two nations last met in Middlesbrough at the Arnold Clark Cup in 2022. On that occasion, Millie Bright fired the Lionesses into the lead after 22 minutes before Janine Beckie levelled matters for Canada in the second half as the two nations played out a 1-1 draw.
