England Squad Betting: Trent and Guehi now in most likely England XI

If England justify their favouritism and win Euro 2024 they will do so without Harry Maguire and Jack Grealish.

The Manchester United defender, who has been in a race to recover from injury, and the Manchester City playmaker, are among seven players who have been cut from Gareth Southgate's 33-man squad.

Maguire has been a stalwart in Southgate's time as head coach while Grealish played an important part for the team when they reached the final at Euro 2020.

The City man has endured a tricky season, however, and Southgate has opted for in-form players over the tried and tested.

The other five to have been cut from the 33-man squad are James Maddison, Curtis Jones, James Trafford, Jarrad Branthwaite and Jarell Quansah.

Youngsters Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton, who made his debut in the friendly win against Bosnia on Monday, are going to Germany.

Both play for Crystal Palace and the Eagles are the most represented club with four players in Southgate's 26.

Strikers Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney will both be in the squad as deputies for Harry Kane.

Looking at Betfair's 'to start v Serbia' market for England's opening Euro 2024 match, all the usual names are of course heavy favourites, but it is Trent Alexander-Arnold and Marc Guehi who are the biggest market movers.

Trent is now odds-on at 4/51.80 to start in England's first game, which looks like it could be alongside Declan Rice in midfield. Trent was as big as 6/17.00 when England's training squad was announced a couple of weeks ago, but starred in England's friendly against Bosnia earlier in the week.

Crystal Palace Marc Guehi is also now looking likely to start alongside John Stones, priced as short as 1/61.17 to make the XI, with both Harry Maguire and Jarrod Branthwaite both missing from the Three Lions' final squad. He was 13/114.00 to start for England in the opening game last month.
