Empoli striker Sebastiano Esposito admits that he dreams of a return to parent club Inter Milan in the future and to lead the attack with brother Francesco Pio.
The 22-year-old is currently on loan at fellow Serie A outfit Empoli and enjoying a positive season with eight goals in 25 league games, whilst he netted a penalty in Italy U21’s 2-1 defeat to Netherlands on Friday.
Speaking to Italian television broadcaster Rai Sport after the game, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, Esposito revealed that he felt a forward line involving himself and his brother at Inter was some way off, but remained their ambition.
“It’s early, you know better than me that the market, especially for young players, is very difficult. For now it’s just a dream,” he declared of himself and Pio, currently on loan at Serie B club Spezia.
Sebastiano reflected on the defeat and felt that the older players in the group needed to take responsibility.
It was a good performance but, unfortunately, especially in Italy, the result matters more than the performance,” Esposito said.
“We know that well, and one moment cost us, and as we know, episodes make the difference.
We older players, need to make that clear. Many of us have experience and know what needs to be done. Now, we need to focus on the next game and reflect on where we went wrong.”
Esposito has made 14 appearances in all competitions for Inter in his career, scoring one senior goal.
