The 20-year-old has also taken on the famous number ten jersey, previously worn by Mesut Özil, Robin van Persie and Dennis Bergkamp.

Aston Villa saw two bids rejected – worth £25m and £30m – earlier this summer although Arsenal had no interest in selling their academy graduate.

Head coach Mikel Arteta told the club’s official website: “As we all saw last season, Emile is an intelligent player with excellent ability.

“His sharpness on the turn and exceptional vision have already made him a key player for us. His attitude and willingness to learn have also been very impressive.

“I know the fans will join us in being delighted that Emile has committed his future to the club and we’re now looking forward to helping him develop further.”

Smith Rowe has been with the club since the age of nine, and joins Bukayo Saka in committing his future to Arsenal.
