Manchester United Women’s star, Ella Toone, has capped off a fine individual season by winning three awards for her performances.

The team’s overall league showing has been poor as they finished fifth and were crushed by Chelsea 0-6 at Old Trafford yesterday.

However, this hasn’t stopped Toone progressing as a player and she has scored nine goals this season in 33 matches.

She was recently awarded United’s player of the month for April after scoring a world-class winner at Leicester City.

However, the best was yet to come as she scored a wonderful solo goal to give United the lead in the FA Cup final as they ran out 4-0 winners against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

Her growth into a truly world-class talent has not only been noticed in England, as powerhouses of women’s football, Barcelona, are reportedly eyeing up a swoop for the 24 year old.

Toone was awarded both the Women’s Player of the Year award voted for by the fans and the goal of the season, for her cup final heroics.

Commenting on the goal after the match she said, “I’ve been practising a lot. The girls know that I’m practising all the time after training on shots like that, shots from outside of the box and shots that I will take in games.”

Toone was also named the Women’s Players’ Player of the Year but she had to be content to share the award with her young teammate Maya Le Tissier.

The young centre back has had a breakthrough season and she has emerged as one of the leaders and most vital members of the group according to manager Marc Skinner.

Speaking after she signed a new deal last month he said, “I think she’s going to be a cultural architect for what we want to build at Manchester United. That’s the reason she has signed again.”

If United are to build on their first major trophy, it is imperative they keep hold of jewels like Toone and Le Tissier and continue to fill the side with talent to complement them.
