Foot Africa can confirm that South African winger Elias Mokwana has been fined by Tunisian giants Esperance de Tunis after reporting late for the pre-season camp along with Yan Sasse and Rodrigo Rodriguez.
The trio is subject to an uncertain future in Tunis, with the club actively looking to free up its foreign quota to make way for new recruits. Out-of- favor Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile is a name that Esperance are targeting to bolster their ranks for the new campaign.
While a deal for Shalulile is proving difficult to conclude, with the South African champions demanding a hefty fee to part away with the Namibian international, his arrival will pave way for the departure of a foreign player.
Moreover, the Taraji are understood to have concluded a deal for the transfer of highly rated center-forward Clement Mzize from Tanzanian giants Young Africans. The 24-year-old is expected to touchdown in Tunisia after the conclusion of the 2024 CHAN tournament.
Meanwhile, Mokwana and the two Brazilians were subjected to disciplinary and financial sanctions, leading to their exclusion in coach Maher Kanzari's team. However, the Bafana international has since been reinstated, while the South Americans are currently with team B.
Rodriguez has attracted interest in his native country as Brasiliero second division side Criciuma are said to have registered concrete interest in acquiring his services, while Sasse is on the radar of a number of clubs in the Middle East.
On the other hand, newly promoted Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hazem have made contact with the Tunisian powerhouse in a bid to explore the feasibility of a potential deal to sign the Bafana Bafana international.
This comes after Mokwana caught the eye at the recently concluded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States of America (USA), where the 25-year-old winger featured in all three group stage games against Flamengo, LAFC and Chelsea.
