Celtic FC Women kicked off the start of a huge eight days in ideal fashion on Sunday afternoon, after running out 3-0 winners over Partick Thistle.

As we enter the final three games of the campaign, the title race is set to go down to the wire once more, with the Celts leading the way at the top of the SWPL.

Returning to the Excelsior Stadium, Elena Sadiku’s side welcomed Partick Thistle to Airdrie with another important three points on the line.

Victory on Sunday maintained the Ghirls’ advantage at the top following a 3-0 win over the Jags.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, Head Coach Elena Sadiku was pleased with the overall performance of her squad.

Following a controlled and dominant performance, the Swedish coach believes that the Celts could have scored more. However, the most important thing at this stage of the season was securing all three points.

She said: “I think that we created chances enough to score goals. It was a fair win – we controlled and dominated the game.

“Obviously now after the match, I think we should have scored a little bit more. But at the same time, we got the job done.

‘We won the game, and we scored three goals. So I’m pretty okay with that!’

“I think that we dominated everything. We pressed the game really well, and we attacked well. Sometimes, especially first half, I think the pace was not as fast as I wanted us to play.

“But, overall it was a good team-performance. I’m very happy with how the subs performed too. They came in with energy and that was also a difference.

“So I’m very happy with the outcome and the result.”

With another game quickly on the horizon for the Ghirls, Sadiku and her squad won’t have much time to dwell on another strong result and performance.

On Wednesday evening, the Hoops travel to the capital to face off against Hearts in the penultimate game of the campaign.

Straight after the full time whistle, Sadiku insisted that the focus quickly switched to the Jambos as the Celts gear up for their final away trip of the season.

“I think we also created enough, but the most important thing is that we kept pushing forward what we want to do,” she said.

“We made subs that allowed us to bring that energy in, and I think that is something we are happy with.

‘For me, it’s about getting the job done and now we need to focus on the next game.’

“Now we just need to recover well. We made a few changes during the game, so hopefully we can be fresh for that game.

“But it’s about trying to push this game away, and now only focus on Hearts.”
