Eintracht Frankfurt will be without captain Sebastian Rode for their historic Champions League group stage opener against Sporting CP on Wednesday evening, according to Kicker.

The 31-year-old played a crucial part in his side’s 4-0 victory over RB Leipzig last weekend and scored the Eagle’s second of the night. However, just after the hour mark Rode had to be substituted due to a thigh problem.

On Monday, Frankfurt confirmed that Rode: “has suffered a muscle injury in his thigh and will be out for the time being.”

It’s a challenging group but one in which Frankfurt should feel confident that they can qualify from.
