Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Edu Gaspar as their new Global Head of Football.

The move brings an end to months of speculation about his future following his shocking decision to leave Arsenal at the end of last year.

Edu joins Forest in a newly created position that will allow him to oversee all football-related operations at the club, including recruitment, squad strategy, and player development.

The Brazilian’s arrival is a massive leap forward in Forest’s ambition to establish a more modern and globally connected football structure.

Edu will also oversee Evangelos Marinakis’ wider football network, which includes Greek giants Olympiacos and Portuguese side Rio Ave.

Marinakis has talked about potentially expanding his network even further by adding a Brazilian club to the mix, with Vasco da Gama on his radar.

After joining Forest, Edu said: “I’m truly excited about this new chapter and honoured by the trust placed in me. This project connects deeply with my values around innovation and long-term planning.

“I look forward to building a global football model that is competitive, sustainable, and aligned with our President’s ambition.”

Marinakis added: “We are extremely happy to welcome Edu to our football family.

“His global experience, values, and winning mindset align perfectly with our objective to strengthen and expand our international football platform.”

Edu has received plenty of plaudits for his work at Arsenal. He played a crucial role in the club’s rebuild under Mikel Arteta and will hope to have a similar impact at Forest.

The Brazilian won six trophies with Arsenal during his playing days, including two Premier League titles, but only won one major trophy since returning to the club as an executive.

He’d be hoping to have a better impact at Forest, who will get their first taste of European football in nearly three decades, having qualified for next season’s Europa Conference League.
