Chelsea did not play well in the opening stages of their win over Porto, and only lead thanks to a brilliant moment from Mason Mount.
Not long after, they could add a super save from Edouard Mendy to that goal as crucial to their slim lead. The goalkeeper batted a couple of shots away early on, but this one was next level. After Antonio Rudiger switched off, Moussa Marega was able to burst in and shoot from an angle, but Mendy timed his sprint towards the ball perfectly, and he made himself big to block the effort with his knee.
His performances in the Champions League overall this season have been superb, and if we’re to go further than this we will need more of these great games from the stopper.
If he can improve his kicking a little, we will have a truly top goalie on our hands. Who would have thought he’d be our top signing from last summer?
