Bayer Leverkusen have announced that defender Edmond Tapsoba will miss their next few games as he recovers from surgery following a hand injury.

Tapsoba had suffered the injury last week against Sandhausen in the DFB Pokal and the recovery from the surgery will see him miss Leverkusen’s game against Qarabag in the Europa League on Thursday as well as their Bundesliga game against Union Berlin at the weekend.

The 24-year-old had played against Hoffenheim at the weekend and will be available once again after the international break for Leverkusen’s game against Werder Bremen.

The injury to Tapsoba will now give Josip Stanisic slightly more playing time as he has struggled to break into Leverkusen’s defence in the first part of this season after joining on loan from Bayern Munich in the summer.

Tapsoba has been a stalwart of a Leverkusen side that currently sit top of the Bundesliga, two points clear of Bayern and currently unbeaten with their only draw coming against the Bavarian side.
