Eden Hazard will NOT be wearing Cristiano Ronaldo’s former number 7 shirt at Real Madrid next season.

That’s according to Spanish outlet MARCA, who report on Sunday that Madrid’s current number 7 Mariano Díaz wants to stay and fight for his place at the Bernabeu and has no intention of relinquishing his jersey to Hazard.

It’s been over a month since the Belgian made his €100m move from Chelsea and despite the fact photos have circulated online of ‘HAZARD 7’ shirts on sale in the club shop, it looks like the 28-year-old has been forced to choose another number.

And according to MARCA, that number will be 23.

Hazard is said to have chosen 23 because it’s a number which has been worn by iconic sportsmen such as Michael Jordan, LeBron James and of course, David Beckham at Real Madrid.

Last season, the number 23 was worn by Sergio Reguilón but with the left-back joining Sevilla on loan for next season, it has now become available.

So if you’ve already shelled out on a ‘HAZARD 7’ shirt, it might be time to ask for your money back.
