Ipswich Town are on the verge of back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League, and would become the first team to achieve such an unfathomable feat since Southampton in 2012.

When the Tractor Boys earned promotion from League One last campaign, even they could not have anticipated the stunning 2023/24 Championship campaign they have had.

But the only obstacle in the way of Kieran McKenna and his players now is Huddersfield Town, who are all but relegated, and the Tractor Boys require just a point on the final day to earn automatic promotion alongside Leicester City, who were crowned champions on Monday night with a 3-0 victory over Preston North End.

The Portman Road faithful will be enjoying some of the greatest moments in the club's modern history, including music sensation Ed Sheeran, who is a keen supporter of the Tractor Boys, and has sponsored the team's shirts since 2021.

A supporter of the Suffolk Outfit commented on Ed Sheeran's latest Instagram post: "Ed stop f***ing around, and get yourself to Portman", to which Sheeran replied: "Prem sponsorship won't pay for itself."

The Tractor Boys fan later commented: "Sorry Ed, you're right."

Sheeran could once again provide the Tractor Boys' shirt sponsor

During his exchange with a fellow Tractor Boys fan, Sheeran hinted that he will once again provide the team he supports with their shirt sponsor.

Alongside his major achievements in the music industry, it may be a dream come true for Sheeran to sponsor his team in the Premier League, and perhaps something he did not believe would be the case, as when he initially agreed a sponsorship deal with the Tractor Boys, ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, they were gearing up for a third successive season in League One.

But McKenna became the Tractor Boys boss in December 2021, and that is when the tide began to turn for the East Anglian side, who finished 11th at the end of the 2021/22 season.

The Tractor Boys' rise under McKenna has been incredible

In his first full season in charge of the Suffolk outfit, McKenna earned his side automatic promotion from League One to the Championship, which has set the tone for the remarkable success which has followed.

The confidence the Northern Irishman has instilled in his squad is admirable, and he has got players performing at a level which they have never been able to reach before.

The vast majority of the Tractor Boys' squad were with them in League One last season, yet they now stand on the verge of top-flight football, tantalisingly close to away trips to some of football's most renowned arenas, such as Old Trafford and Anfield.

In just over two years, McKenna looks set to have turned mid-table third tier battles with the likes of Accrington Stanley to Premier League clashes with elite sides such as Manchester City.

Potential promotion could taste sweeter still for the Tractor Boys if bitter rivals Norwich City fail to earn promotion, but some supporters will be licking their lips at the prospect of a Premier League East Anglian derby, which could soon become reality if the Canaries can hold on to their top-six spot, and navigate the play-offs successfully.
