Eboue Kouassi completes permanent Celtic exit | OneFootball

Belgian outfit Genk have announced that they have taken up the option to sign Celtic midfielder Eboue Kouassi permanently.

The Ivorian joined on loan from the Hoops in January, a deal which included a clause allowing them to make the move permanent for a fee in the region of £1.5 million.

And they have confirmed via a short statement that they exerted that option, with Kouassi penning a contract until 2024 with the Belgians.

Due to an injury problem and the onset of the coronavirus crisis, the former Krasnodar man played only four games but did enough to convince the club of his quality.

Kouassi will be remembered as one of Brendan Rodgers’ major flops in terms of the transfer market.

He arrived in January 2017 for a fee of around £3m and was initially hailed as the long-term replacement to captain Scott Brown.

The 22-year-old made just 22 appearances in all competitions, mostly as a substitute, and failed to have any kind of impact at Parkhead.
