Yesterday afternoon, Celtic hosted a group of season ticket holders with sensory impairments to Paradise for the club’s annual ‘Touching the Trophies’ experience.
The initiative provided visually impaired supporters, and those with additional sensory issues, with a chance to hold the Scottish Premiership and League Cup trophies.
Taking place in the Parkhead Boardroom, the afternoon fans were able to connect with the club’s past and present in a unique environment set up for their additional needs.
Speaking to the club website, one visually impaired season ticket holder said: “It is hard to put into words how I felt when allowed to make contact with the trophies.
“As a lifelong Celtic supporter who is now partially sighted, it lifted my spirits and boosted my pride to be a supporter of this wonderful Club”.
James Forrest attended the event and took the time to meet each of the supporters, sign autographs and pose for photographs. Discussing his attendance at such an event, Forrest remarked: “It was a privilege to be part of such a meaningful event.
“Seeing what this means to the supporters and being able to connect with them in this way is what Celtic is all about. It was a really special day.”
The initiative was arranged by Celtic’s Disability Access Team and it was a great way for fans who usually experience the match days in different ways to most supporters, to have something set up exclusively for them.
Celtic’s Disability Access Officer Alexis Dobbin told the club media: “Today’s event was all about removing barriers and making sure everyone can feel the pride at being part of the Celtic family.
“It was heart-warming to see so many smiles and to hear what it meant to our supporters.”
