Chelsea ended Manchester City’s twelve-match winning run in all competitions to reach the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup Final.

The only goal of the game at the Joie Stadium came just eight minutes in, Laia Aleixandri’s pass intercepted in the City half by Erin Cuthbert, before Mayra Ramirez set up Lauren James to score with a deflected shot.

Chelsea might well have soon had another when the hosts were caught playing the ball out from the back but Ramirez’s effort was blocked. The Colombian would be withdrawn after half an hour, having taken a knock.

City also had a couple of early chances, Khadija Shaw heading over and bursting into the box but opting not to shoot and her pass being intercepted.

In the second half, Hannah Hampton had to rush out to deny Lauren Hemp when played in by Jess Park. Alex Greenwood twice threatened an equaliser late on, seeing an effort cleared off the line and appealing for a penalty following a challenge from Cuthbert.

The final will be on Sunday 31 March at Molineux and broadcast live on the BBC, with tickets available here.
