News has broken today that EA are set to become the main sponsor of La Liga from 2023! More on this story below.
That’s according to a Marca report, which claims that the video game publisher will take over Santander as the main sponsor of the league, which is home to Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and many more world-class sides.
After La Liga confirmed it was ending its relationship with Santander last month, the gap was there for a new sponsor to come, and it appears that EA Sports has taken advantage and done just that.
Electronic Arts will reportedly pay 30 million euros a year for the sponsorship, which will begin at the start of the 2023/24 season and see the league known as La Liga EA Sports.

EA will become the main sponsor of La Liga from 2023-24.
The deal will include EA Sports naming rights for the league in a deal worth $205M over five years – meaning they’ll have the rights until at least 2028.
The deal directly aligns with the new release of EA’s standalone football simulator title – EA Sports FC. The deal makes perfect sense as after ending their partnership with global footballing body ‘FIFA’, it was looking like EA may struggle to obtain some of the rights to certain teams and players to feature in their new game.
However – with the acquisition of La Liga’s main sponsor, this means they’ll have direct rights to all clubs, players, kits, stadiums and so much more, so it’s certainly apparent that EA are not going to struggle in a world without their FIFA partnership.
The company insists that despite losing the FIFA brand, its games will not change that much. Thanks to over 300 licensing deals, “the same great experiences, modes, leagues, tournaments, clubs and athletes” will be included in EA Sports FC, EA announced in May.
This could be the first of many exclusive deals EA are to be making in preparation for their stand-alone title – so watch this space! They’re making big moves in preparation for 2023 and beyond. It’ll be majorly exciting to see where they take EA Sports FC in the future.
