Dragusin transfer worked out better for Genoa than Tottenham | OneFootball

Radu Dragusin’s move from Genoa to Tottenham in the January transfer window did not affect the Grifone, who have averaged fewer goals conceded since the Romania international left.

Dragusin signed for Tottenham in a reported €31m deal in the January transfer window, but stats suggest the Grifone haven’t been affected by the defender’s sale.

Alberto Gilardino’s side conceded 24 goals in 19 Serie A games with the 22-year-old on the pitch in the first part of the season, an average of 1.26 goals per game. The Grifone maintained defensive stability since Dragusin’s departure, conceding 13 goals in the following 11 league games, an average of 1.18 goals per game.

To say that Genoa’ defence became better without Dragusin would be a stretch, but stats show Genoa were surely not affected by Dragusin’s sale.

Gilardino had to make tactical changes following Dragusin’s exit, using Mexico international Johan Vásquez in a three-man defence and deploying Morten Frendrup, Junior Messias or Tottenham loanee Djed Spence as a left wing-back.

Dragusin, on the other hand, is still adapting to life in North London and has made six Premier League appearances with Tottenham, starting in a 3-0 loss against Fulham and a 2-1 win over Luton in March.
