Borussia Dortmund’s Emre Can is set to miss out on the DFL Supercup on Tuesday after suffering a calf injury setback.
The Germany international was not involved in Saturday’s 5-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, and now looks likely to miss the date with former club Bayern Munich as well.
Can had been expected to make the squad for BVB’s Bundesliga opener, but the club’s head of the licensed players’ department Sebastian Kehl has explained the absence.
“Emre Can had a small muscular reaction, so it wasn’t enough on Saturday,” Kehl told Ruhr Nachrichten.
Dortmund do, however, expect the 27-year-old to recover in time for the trip to Freiburg next weekend.
Fellow defenders Raphaël Guerreiro (calf) and Mats Hummels (knee) are also in line to return to Marco Rose’s squad for that game.
