Borussia Dortmund have confirmed striker Sébastien Haller will miss ‘several weeks’ after sustaining an ankle injury in the Africa Cup of Nations final.
Haller, who was welcomed back to a hero’s reception by his teammates after scoring the winning goal for Ivory Coast last Sunday, will now sit out Saturday’s Bundesliga clash away to Wolfsburg, as well as the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie with PSV Eindhoven.
The 29-year-old had struggled for form with Dortmund prior to the tournament, scoring just twice in 14 appearances this season, albeit he was largely used as a substitute.
It was hoped that his international exploits would act as a launch pad for the remainder of the campaign, but that will now have to wait.
Dortmund have been in fine form of late, winning four and drawing one of five games in the new year, scoring 13 times in the process, to keep up their push for a top-4 finish.
