Another day, and yet another club has distanced themselves from the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The future of the Manchester United forward is one that has dominated headlines for a number of weeks, with the 37-year-old believed to be keen to quit the club due to the lack of Champions League football on offer at Old Trafford.

Plenty of clubs have been linked with a move for Ronaldo, as Jorge Mendes tries to drum up interest in the five-time Balon d’Or winner, though despite finishing as the Premier League’s third highest goalscorer last season, one by one, those clubs have ruled themselves out.

Bayern Munich, PSG, Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid have been linked at some stage, though have all since opted against a move for the striker.

Rumours this week have suggested that Borussia Dortmund could be a potential destination, with the Bundesliga side looking to bolster their attack following the saddening news that summer signing Sebastien Haller has been diagnosed with testicular cancer.

However, it seems as though BVB are also not in the market to sign the veteran striker, with club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke insisting there has been no contact.

“Cristiano Ronaldo and Borussia Dortmund – that’s very charming at first glance. He’s one of the greatest players the world has ever seen,” said Watzke, as per Sky Germany.

“The only catch is that there’s no contact at all between the parties involved and certainly no transfer either.”

Atletico Madrid are believed to be an option despite the speculation causing frustration among their fanbase, while a return to Sporting Lisbon has also been suggested.
