Atalanta and Genoa have reportedly come to an agreement over the permanent transfer of Italy international Mateo Retegui, according to multiple outlets.

Atalanta and Genoa close deal for Retegui

The Argentine-born Azzurri forward is set to team up with Gian Piero Gasperini in a €25m deal, made up of €22m up front and €3m in bonuses, according to Sky Sport Italia, Gianluca Di Marzio, Matteo Moretto and others.

The 25-year-old only moved to Serie A to join Genoa last summer in a deal that fetched a fee of €15m for his former club, Tigre.

Atalanta have had to move quickly to secure a new centre-forward after the serious knee injury suffered by Retegui’s international teammate Gianluca Scamacca. Scamacca has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and is expected to be sidelined for a minimum period of six months, which will rule him out of more than half of the Serie A season.

Fortunately for La Dea, an agreement with Genoa came about relatively quickly, and Retegui is now expected to set off for Bergamo later this evening.

He is set to have his medical with Atalanta on Thursday.
