Reports in Italy claim that Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah have recently agreed a deal with Atalanta to sign Italy international Mateo Retegui for a staggering fee of €70m.

According to reports from Michele Criscitiello of SportItalia, a deal between the two clubs was struck at around 17.30 BST for an enormous €70m fee.

There are some contradictions over the reported fee, however, as the likes of Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto claim that the deal is worth up to €65m.

If the deal goes through, Retegui will become Atalanta’s second most expensive sale of all time, behind Rasmus Hojlund, who left Bergamo to join Manchester United in a deal worth €75m plus up to €10m in bonuses in the summer of 2023.

Retegui set to leave Atalanta after one season

Football Italia revealed earlier in the week that Atalanta had rejected an offer of €53m for the Argentine-born Italy international earlier in the week.

Football Italia can also confirm that there is already an agreement on personal terms in place between Retegui and Al-Qadsiah for a whopping €20m-per-season contract.

The 26-year-old only joined Atalanta last summer, in a deal that cost La Dea €28m to bring him over from Genoa. He finished the 2024-25 season as the Capocannoniere with 25 goals from 36 league appearances, beating the 19-goal Moise Kean, who had also been subject of interest from Al-Qadsiah earlier this summer.

Retegui is now set to leave Serie A after just two seasons, having seven goals from 29 league appearances for Genoa following his move from Argentina in the summer of 2023.
