Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has admitted that he believes that Fulham will not be caught in the race for promotion if they are able to pick up some positive results in their upcoming league fixtures.

After going on a run of five games without a victory in the Championship, the Cottagers made a stunning return to winning ways at this level earlier this month as they thrashed Reading 7-0.

Marco Silva’s side then backed up this particular display by securing a 6-2 victory over Bristol City last weekend.

Aleksandar Mitrovic netted a hat-trick against the Robins whilst Neeskens Kebano bagged a brace and Fabio Carvalho was also on the score sheet for Fulham.

Set to face Birmingham City this evening, Fulham will be brimming with confidence heading into this fixture and thus it wouldn’t be at all surprising if they produce another memorable performance in-front of their supporters.

The Cottagers, who are currently top of the Championship standings, will move five points clear of their nearest rivals AFC Bournemouth if they beat the Blues.

Making reference to Fulham, Goodman has insisted that the club will not be caught by their rivals if they continue to pick up victories on a regular basis in the coming weeks.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Sky Sports EFL Podcast about the Cottagers, Goodman said: “They are on the cusp I think now of really laying down a dominance.

“Certainly the next four, five, six games if they can rattle off, as they have already done this season, win after win for four, five, six games, I think they’ll put the rest to bed really in that they will establish themselves in an unassailable situation.

“I.e., they won’t get caught, certainly not by a couple of teams so they will end up in the top-two.

“I think it’s an almost certainty the way they are going.”

The Verdict

It is hard to disagree with Goodman’s comments as Fulham have stepped up a gear in recent weeks and are now in a commanding position in the Championship.

Although there will be plenty of drama at this level during the second half of the season, the Cottagers have more than enough quality at their disposal to build a significant gap between them and the chasing pack.

By picking up positive results in their clashes with Birmingham, Stoke City and Blackpool later this month, Fulham could edge closer to achieving their goal of securing an immediate return to the Premier League.
