Mendoza, Argentina – The Dominican Republic wrapped up their campaign in the 2023 FIFA Under-20 Men’s World Cup in Argentina with a 3-0 defeat to Italy in Group D action on Saturday afternoon at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas in Mendoza, Argentina.

Cesare Casadei gave the Italians a 1-0 lead in the 19’ before Giuseppe Ambrosino doubled the advantage to 2-0 in the 50’.

The Dominican Republic tried to work their way back into the contest, but the Italians held strong and struck for the third and final goal in the 84’ courtesy of Casadei’s second goal of the day to round out the 3-0 scoreline.

Despite exiting in the group stage, the Dominican Republic can leave with their heads held high after making history by scoring the first goal for the Dominican Republic in a World Cup at any age level when Edison Azcona scored in the opening match versus Nigeria.

Honduras will look for a victory in their Group F finale as they meet France at the Estadio Unico Diego Armando Maradona in La Plata.

The Catrachos are coming off a spirited performance in which they earned a 2-2 draw with South Korea despite playing a man down for more than an hour.

Honduras are still very much in the mix for a first ever U20 World Cup knockout round berth if they can secure the three points against Les Bleus.

A win could give Honduras a second-place finish in the group, or rank them as one of the top four third-place finishers.

Isaac Castillo will be seeking a second goal in as many games for the Hondurans.
