The first concrete chance of the game came to the hosts as Benjamin Pavard rose highest from a corner kick. The Frenchman’s header, however, sailed inches over the crossbar.

Sadio Mané then thought he had opened the score, only for VAR to intervene as the 30-year-old was adjudged to be offside.

Bayern’s breakthrough would come though as, after good work by Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala found the bottom corner with a fine finish from the top of the box, scoring his third goal in two games.

Veteran Thomas Müller doubled the lead 10-minutes later, diverting Joshua Kimmich’s low effort in having been found by Davies after more determined play by the Canadian international.

The hosts pushed for further goals as the second half went on but, despite their domination couldn’t add to their tally. Müller came close with an effort from range as Dayot Upamencano and Mané, again, had goal ruled out for offside.

Bayern stay top of the table with the win, level on points with Borussia Dortmund, the only other side with a perfect record after two games.
