Djordje Mihailovic will no longer be joining the US men’s national team during the June international window after sustaining an ankle injury during CF Montreal’s 4-3 victory over FC Cincinnati on Saturday.
The player initially collided with Junior Moreno in the fourth minute of the match at Stade Saputo, but remained on the pitch until being forced off in the 17th minute.
While the Major League Soccer side described the injury as 'short-term', no exact recovery timeline has been provided. Mihailovic is expected to sit out the next couple weeks, as CF Montreal returns to action on June 18 when hosting Austin FC.
Head coach Gregg Berhalter will not be replacing the CF Montreal player, bringing the roster down to 26 players as the team prepares for the Concacaf Nations League and World Cup.
Mihailovic’s absence is one of many the USMNT have had to navigate through, with Miles Robinson, Gio Reyna, and Sergino Dest all sidelined as well. Zack Steffen is also notably missing from the June roster after dropping out due to personal reasons.
