NYCFC vs CF Montréal preview: Welcoming the last-place team to the Big Apple

New York City FC fans are not very happy with the club right now.  It is becoming clearer that depth is lacking in the squad and that some of the younger players might not be completely ready for more first-team minutes.  Jonathan Shore is the current exception, but regardless, the Pigeons are short-staffed.

Thankfully, they have a shot to improve their play against the last-place Eastern Conference side, CF Montréal.  The Canadian team has not yet won Major League Soccer, and NYCFC has dominated the team over the years.  They did lose last year on Decision Day, so anything can happen.  However, if the Boys in Blue play as they should and similar to the first half of the FC Cincinnati game, then they will be one step closer to three points.

Of course, the scoring struggles can plague the team regardless of how they play.  The U.S. Open Cup loss this week is a great example.  NYCFC lacked the clinical finish and had a few chances toward the end of the match when they should have clearly put themselves ahead by a goal or two.  Instead, they lost 1-0 to Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.

It is vital that the Bronx team gets back on track against Montréal.  Here is a preview of the next NYCFC match.

NYCFC vs CF Montréal preview

Date

NYCFC and CF Montréal will play one another on Saturday, May 10.

Time

The fixture will start at 7:30 PM ET.

Location

The game will be played at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.

How to watch

Fans can watch the match on the MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.

Weather

It will be a beautiful night for football in the Bronx.  It will be sunny before the sun sets and clear night skies as the night progresses.  There is no chance of rain, and it will be around 70 degrees with low humidity.

Injury report

Malachi Jones (leg), Kevin O’Toole (leg), Keaton Parks (foot), and Birk Risa (leg) are all out for Saturday’s clash.  Mitja Ilenič is back and available.

Players to watch

With Parks and Risa out, Justin Haak should start next to Thiago Martins on the backline.  Therefore, there is no player to watch, but rather the question of whether Aiden O’Neill will make his debut, either as a starter or from the bench.  If he does play, how much of an impact will the Australian make?

On Montréal, fans should watch Caden Clark.  The former New York Red Bulls player still has a hatred for the Boys in Blue and continues to be a menace when he plays against NYCFC.  He scored against them last year in the 2-0 Decision Day loss and was a huge problem for the backline.  He has started seven of the 11 matches, so he should start based on his history against the Pigeons.

It would be nice for the Bronx team to score more than one goal.  Some might believe they can do that against Montréal.  However, the realistic prediction is that the Boys in Blue will win 1-0.  Although, the dream prediction would be for them to win 3-0 based on who they are playing.  Nevertheless, the prediction is that NYCFC will win.
