Divided opinion as Union Bears abandon Rangers

Article image:Divided opinion as Union Bears abandon Rangers

A lot has been made of fan group the Union Bears boycotting Rangers players’ lap of honour after the Dundee win, the final home match of an ultimately-dismal season, one which promised so much but ended up collapsing miserably at the business end.

Were the group right to walk away?

Well, anyone judging them might also want to judge the 80% of fans elsewhere in the stadium who had already left well before the final whistle, so once we get to the point where we are judging fans negatively for their decisions we better hope we’ve never committed a single sin ourselves.

Let he who has lived a life without sin judge others.

The truth is, fans’ pontificating judgementalism this season has been rife – a fan calls out Borna at a signing session and others leap on him abusively, despite themselves having slaughtered Barisic all season and then denying the Croat a 5-minute send off cameo in said match. AFTER that incident.

Then there’s the abuse of fans BY fans after Fabio Silva smeared them for giving him a few pelters.

In short terms? There’s a really nasty underbelly of self-righteous virtue signalling bollocks in our support at the moment, where en-masse fans are judging players’ conduct and each other.

Our stance? Call incidents out, observe them, but we’d never judge or smear fellow fans unless they are being directly abusive to us.

Live and let live we say, and if the UB wanted to show their disgust at this atrocious season by leaving early, they were entitled to do that.

In fairness, we do think most fans were being fairly supportive of their decision, and we are among that too.

It’s more of a shame they felt they had to do that, to send a message to the players, manager, and board, that another abysmal season next campaign isn’t acceptable.

Unfortunately, we can’t see much else happening at this point.
