Diego Simeone was left gritting his teeth after Antoine Griezmann came off injured after just 19 minutes in Atlético’s 5-0 Copa del Rey victory over Rayo Majadahonda.
Despite coming on as a second-half substitute, Griezmann looked upset as he walked down the tunnel in the 76th minute, forcing the LaLiga champions to finish the match with 10 men.
“The doctors will inform better than me,” Simeone said in his post-match conference. “He is a very important player for us and it is a shame that he was injured again.
“We hope he does not have much time out.”
Aside from the injury, Simeone was thrilled with João Félix’s second-half performance as he came off the bench to score in consecutive away games for just the second time with the rojiblancos.
“It was an extraordinary performance in the second half,” Simeone added.
“He has come out with great enthusiasm and everything he has tried has turned out well for him. I’m very happy for him and I’m sure it will be good for us if he continues at this level.”
