Argentina legend Diego Maradona posted a short three-second video on Instagram declaring his support for Colombia and wearing a national team shirt to renew his rivalry with the Three Lions.
Maradona’s famous ‘Hand of God’ occurred during the 1986 World Cup against England, and he provided plenty of banter prior to the Colombia match.
The retired superstar was paid €11,000 by FIFA to attend the match at the Spartak Stadium in Moscow.
However, England would have the last laugh, defeating Colombia on penalties to advance to the quarter-finals, where they will face Sweden.
Maradona was picked by the governing body president Gianni Infantino as a ‘FIFA Legend’ to be Argentina’s ambassador at the World Cup.
He has also offered to return as Argentina’s national team coach for free after finding it will cost almost €20m to sack Jorge Sampaoli.
