The brass at La Liga champions Barcelona over recent days sat down for a meeting with the entourage of an up-and-coming member of the club’s academy ranks.

The player in question? Toni Fernández.

Youngster Toni has of course seen his name emerge as a prominent one in the chatter surrounding Barcelona once more over recent weeks.

This comes after the Spaniard was again called upon by Hansi Flick to make the step up to the Blaugrana’s senior setup for pre-season.

Toni was afforded a place on the club’s tour of Asia, and continued to impress when afforded minutes on the pitch.

In turn, it will no doubt come as a source of excitement for those of a Barca persuasion to learn that the 17-year-old has eyes only for the Catalans.

As per a report from Diario Sport:

‘In recent days his entourage has met with Barça to lay the foundations for the player’s near future. The club gave him confidence and that Hansi Flick is very happy with his evolution and his performance this preseason.’

Despite widespread interest in his services, the outcome of this meeting was therefore that Toni will continue to work with Barca Atlètic over the months ahead, with a view to rejoining Flick’s squad down the line.

This is a plan which the attacker himself appears to be fully behind, with it concluded that ‘he only wants to succeed at the club of his life’.
