The ex-Balackburn Rovers manager's approach of targeting players he has worked with previously - in Danny Batth and Andreas Weimann - shows a desire to bring in players familiar with his methods, but he looks to be expanding his horizons

FLW take a look at the latest news surrounding Derby County, with a marquee transfer set to be announced this week.

£5.8m Patrick Agyemang transfer nearing completion

Derby County's pursuit of American striker Patrick Agyemang is reaching its conclusion, with the initial £5.8m transfer from Charlotte FC expected to be completed now the CONCACAF Gold Cup has ended.

The 24-year-old has scored five goals in 12 appearances for the USA national team since his debut, and has struck six times in 16 outings in the 2025 MLS season for Charlotte FC, who are managed by ex-Aston Villa and Leicester City boss Dean Smith.

John Eustace's decision to bring in the forward alongside Carlton Morris comes after the Rams' struggles for goals last season, with the manager clearly identifying the need for a physical presence up front.

A medical was pencilled in for the striker this week to complete his move to Derbyshire, and you'd imagine it would all be wrapped up by the end of the week.

Derby County rivalled in Callum Brittain transfer pursuit

Derby are reportedly interested in bringing Blackburn Rovers right-back Callum Brittain to the club, with Eustace keen to reunite with another player he worked with during his time at Ewood Park.

They will be rivalled by Championship clubs for the defender's services though, with Middlesbrough and Wrexham also expressing their interest in the 26-year-old, as per a report from Sky Sports.

Brittain was a regular starter under Eustace at Blackburn, making 30 second-tier starts last season as Rovers narrowly missed out on the play-offs by a mere two points.

The move would provide Derby with even more depth at right-back - all three of their current options (Kane Wilson, Ryan Nyambe, Joe Ward) have proven to be susceptible to injury and all spent time on the sidelines in 2024/25.

Derby County involved in David Sousa transfer battle

FLW exclusively revealed last week that Derby County have joined Coventry City, Middlesbrough, and QPR in the race to sign RWD Molenbeek defender David Sousa.

Under contract with the Belgian side until 2026, Sousa made 45 appearances for Molenbeek, contributing four goals and two assists from defence,

Being left-footed, his European experience and age profile make him an attractive proposition for Championship clubs looking to strengthen or add to their defensive options.

Aside from veteran Craig Forsyth, Matt Clarke is the only natural centre-half at the club who is left-footed - after Eiran Cashin's £10m move to Brighton in January.

Derby's interest in the defender may signal Eustace's intention to sometimes implement a three-at-the-back system that Rams fans saw at the back end of last season - although he has stated that he would "love" to go back to a 4-2-3-1 he used in Lancashire.

John Swift speaks out amid Derby County & Stoke City interest

Last week, experienced midfielder John Swift was linked with both Derby and Championship rival Stoke City, as he looks for a new club following his departure from West Brom.

Swift has been training at a special PFA camp for free agents, and the 30-year-old has now revealed he is excited at the prospect of finding a new club - he shouldn't be short of offers.

“There’s nothing worse than just being sat home, going to the gym, waiting for your agent to call, hoping that it’s sooner rather than later,” Swift said of being involved at the PFA camp, as per BirminghamLive.

“So I’d rather come in and just do this.

"It’s somewhere to come, get back fit and get on the pitch, because you can’t replicate what you do out there in the gym.

"As soon as you turn 30 I think the options become a little bit sparse, but now I’m excited to see where I go next.”
