Denmark reached the round of 16 at Euro 2024 and knocked out Serbia in the process as the two sides played out a goalless draw in Munich.

The Danes finished second in Group C, while Slovenia came third and England finished top despite their own stalemate in Cologne.

Both Denmark and Slovenia have three points from three games and both have scored and conceded twice, but Denmark pipped them into second spot in the group by virtue of picking up one fewer yellow card across the course of the group stage.

Denmark will now face hosts and tournament contenders Germany in their round-of-16 game in Dortmund on Saturday night.

Kasper Hjulmand’s Danes were the dominant side at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena but were unable to make it pay.

Jonas Wind forced a decent save from goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic early on, before the Serbian shot-stopper got down well to deny Christian Eriksen’s low drive from distance.

Serbia, hunting a win that would have seen them through to the knockout stages, did improve late on.

Aleksandar Mitrovic passed just wide of the target, before Dusan Vlahovic nodded over Kasper Schmeichel’s crossbar.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic squandered the Serbs’ final chance as he struck tamely into Schmeichel, who saved with ease.

In the group’s other game, England drew 0-0 with Slovenia, meaning of Group C’s six games only England’s 1-0 win over Serbia didn’t end in a draw.
