Speaking at the Sky Sports launch event, Izzy Christiansen lauded the Lionesses for their brilliant achievement of winning the Euros this summer, building on their triumph in the same tournament in 2022.

Christiansen told Hayters: “It’s outrageous. I was actually speaking to Alex Greenwood this morning, she’s a good friend of mine. Just to feel and hear the impact from her, how big it was. It was three weeks ago now. She’s still feeling, and of course she’ll still feel it for the rest of her life. But the impact it’s had on women’s football in our country is massive.

“And obviously, here at Sky, the investment to women’s football and women’s sport across the board is just incredible. And I think we’re going to go into our best ever WSL season. And obviously, off the back of the England women winning the Euros, I think it only adds superb momentum and undercurrent to the league.”

Back-to-back Euro wins have brought more and more eyes to women’s football with Euro 2025 being the highest attended women’s football tournament ever.

Christiansen was encouraged by the impact this could have on the younger generation.

“I think we can really bring to life the excitement, catch the energy that the Euros generated, use it into our coverage and use it across the league as well. And I think the fact that we’re televising so many live games makes young fans be able to, if they can’t go to the game, they can watch it.

“And that’s exactly what we need to continue the inspiration through for young boys, young girls to see it, believe it. And if they can watch it on their screens at home, it makes them believe that they can be that one day as well.”

The WSL season starts on 5th September when reigning Champions Chelsea take on Manchester City.
