Defiant Marcelo Michel Leaño bullish about play-off hopes of Chivas | OneFootball

Chivas interim manager Marcelo Michel Leaño was frustrated with his side’s poor finishing after they fell 2-1 at Tigres on Saturday.

The Flock had 11 shots at the Estadio Universitario, but only two on target.

In fact, they had to rely on a Guido Pizarro own goal to halve the deficit after André-Pierre Gignac’s brace put the hosts in control of the fixture.

Defeat leaves Chivas in a perilous position in the Apertura table. They currently lie in the 12th and final play-off place, helped greatly by the 1-1 draw between fellow repechaje hopefuls Pumas and Pachuca.

However, Los Rojiblancos are likely to find themselves outside of the play-off places by the time the teams around them complete their games in hand by midweek.

Leaño called on his charges to develop a more clinical edge in attack before the final round of matches next weekend.

“It is not easy to come to this court, take the ball away from Tigres and dominate and arrive,” Leaño told reporters afterwards (via TUDN).

“The tie was there, then we have to be forceful. The rival arrived three times and scored two goals. We arrived and arrived and we have to improve the definition.

“We have to maintain what we did in the second half. We are going to go to Mazatlán to win, the pass is in our hands.”

Mazatlán are currently in 11th spot, so a win in Sinaloa would guarantee that Chivas finish above them.

They will then need to hope that other results fall their way in order to facilitate their progression to the post season.
