There has been no contact over Bolton Wanderers defender George Johnston and there is nothing to suggestions that Stoke City are keen, according to The Bolton News.

The 24-year-old has been a regular fixture in Ian Evatt’s side – featuring 32 times as he’s helped the North West club climb to fifth in League One.

Rumours have been circling about potential deadline day interest, with Stoke City likely to be searching for a replacement for Leicester City-bound Harry Souttar, but it appears those are not substantial.

According to The Bolton News (transfer deadline day live, 31/01, 11:33), there has been no contact concerning Johnston and there is nothing to the suggestions that he could depart today.

Evatt and co. do face a nervous wait on his fitness, however, after he was forced off with an ankle injury at halftime in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Charlton Athletic.

Bolton will hope that is not too serious and that the defender is ready for Saturday’s game against Cheltenham Town at the University of Bolton Stadium.

The Verdict

This update will likely come as a relief to Bolton supporters.

There are still 11 hours to go until the deadline for transfers and things do tend to move quickly on the final day of the window but for the time being, there has been no contact over Johnston and there is nothing to the suggestions that Stoke may pursue him.

Keeping hold of the 24-year-old will certainly be a boost to their hopes of securing a top six place or perhaps even forcing their way into the top two.
