Daniele De Rossi did not shy away from being self-critical of his decisions and the team’s set-up in last night’s 2-1 defeat to Atalanta.

The Italian technician discussed Roma’s shortcomings in his post-match presser.

“The first twenty minutes of the second half seemed similar to the first half, the penalty gave us the illusion that it could have ended differently,” he said.

“The truth is that it was a one-sided game, one-way traffic. Atalanta are very difficult to play against,” he added. “This is our level at the moment, I doubt we could have done more after this relentless stretch.”

“The future? We must follow the same path that our opponents have embarked on over these last years. We are starting from a better base, before Gasperini, Atalanta hovered around mid-table: over time they worked on the coach’s requests and came up with a sustainable and consistent vision of football.”

“We start from a very strong squad in my opinion, we must complete it with characteristics that are currently missing,” he added.
