De La Cruz, Ventura power Cibao past Cavalier

SANTIAGO DE LOS CABALLEROS, Dominican Republic – The 2025 Concacaf Caribbean Cup began with a pair of matches on Tuesday, as Cibao FC won 2-nil against Cavalier FC in Group B at Estadio Cibao FC in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.
In a rematch of the 2024 Final, the Dominican side took its first three points of the campaign against the defending champions.
Cibao scored the tournament’s opening goal in the 20’ when Ernesto Trinidad found space down right wing to find Omar De La Cruz in the middle of the box.
Carlos Ventura doubled the lead in the 73’ to seal the victory.
Miguel Lloyd made two saves and earned his first clean sheet of the 2025 edition.
Cibao FC will continue its Group Stage campaign when it visits Weymouth Wales FC next Tuesday.
Cavalier FC will seek its first victory when it hosts Juventus des Cayes next Thursday.
