Dayot Upamecano reveals his mum talked him out of earlier Bayern move

Bayern Munich will finally get their man this summer, six years after first trying to sign Dayot Upamecano.

Speaking to kicker, the defender has revealed he was approached by Bayern at 16, while still at Valenciennes in France.

However, together with his mum, he took the decision to join Liefering instead.

“Mothers look after their children very well. At 16, you don’t really know where you stand,” he explained.

“Back then, when the approach came from Bayern Munich, it was very tempting, it gave me sleepless nights

“I wanted to take the quickest route to the top. But she said, ‘No, gain experience first, then you can still do great things.'”
