Manchester City legend David Silva could be set for a move to North America’s Major League Soccer at the end of the season, with reports claiming he will join David Beckham’s fledgeling MLS side, Miami United.

The former England captain has long held the rights to own an MLS franchise as part of a deal agreed when he joined LA Galaxy 12 years ago, but that team is finally edging closer to becoming a reality, with his Miami United side set to play their first league games next year.

Despite not yet having a stadium, the Florida-based outfit have already confirmed the signings of three players, Matias Pellegrini, Julian Carranza and Christian Makoun, all hailing from South America. The club is keen to have a hispanic flavour to it, much in keeping with the city of Miami itself.

There have been links with some high-profile players such as Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, though the Independent claim that Man City‘s David Silva would be ‘a more realistic’ option and is ‘likely’ to make the move across the pond.

According to the report, Beckham’s side will be ‘built to suit Silva’, with the 33-year-old having already announced his intention to leave the Etihad at the end of the season, having won four Premier League titles, four League Cups and two FA Cups during his 10 years in England.

The Gran Canaria-born midfielder has previously spoken of his intention to return to his hometown club, Las Palmas, but a lucrative move to the MLS could prove too good to turn down.
