Spanish legend David Silva is the latest high-profile figure to heap praise on Barcelona’s teenage sensation, Lamine Yamal.

The former Manchester City and Valencia star, known for his technical brilliance, couldn’t hide his admiration for the 17-year-old winger who is already making waves across European football.

“Lamine is amazing,” Silva said when asked about the young Barça star. “At his age, he’s astonishing the football world.”

Coming from a player who dazzled with his creativity for Spain, Valencia, Manchester City, and Real Sociedad, those words carry weight.

Silva was particularly impressed with Yamal’s maturity and composure on the pitch. “The things he’s doing, the self-confidence he has… he’s incredible,” he added.

“Let’s see if he keeps it up and we can keep him in the national team for a long time.”

Yamal’s list of honours is already beyond impressive for someone so young. At just 17, he is a two-time La Liga champion, Copa del Rey winner, Spanish Super Cup winner, and now a European champion with Spain.

His rise has been rapid, but what is even more exciting is how grounded and consistent he remains under the pressure.

Reflects on missed moves to Barça or Real Madrid

Despite enjoying a glittering career, Silva never played for either of Spain’s biggest clubs, Barcelona or Real Madrid, something that still sparks curiosity among fans.

When asked how close he came to joining either side, Silva kept it brief but honest: “Wow! I don’t know that. My agent knows. There was a chance at one time or another. Football goes where it goes.”

He didn’t seem to have any regrets. Silva’s career path took him to the Premier League, where he became a legend at Manchester City, winning multiple titles and becoming one of the most respected midfielders of his generation.

Now retired, Silva is clearly keeping a close eye on the new generation, and with comments like these, it is clear he sees something very special in Yamal, just like the rest of the footballing world.
