David Ornstein has suggested it wouldn’t be a shock to see Arsenal go back in for Malcom this summer, after links to the player in the past.

Earlier this month, Goal reported that Barcelona had offered Arsenal the chance to sign Malcom this summer. Matteo Moretto of Di Marzio claimed the Gunners were in talks for the player, and Kike Marin suggested a loan to buy deal was possible.

David Ornstein has now given his thoughts on the deal to the Arsecast, suggesting that whilst he doesn’t know much about the current links, they wouldn’t surprise him.

“I’ve seen Malcom linked, I don’t know about the current links but certainly that was a transfer they had pursued in the past as we know,” Ornstein said. “That was a Sanllehi-led transfer so it wouldn’t be a great shock if they went back down that route.”

It’s interesting to have further confirmation of Arsenal’s previous pursuit of Malcom from a source like Ornstein, as there had been suggestions that the links to the player had been entirely generated by his agent.

The fact that Raul Sanllehi was leading the deal is also noteworthy, given Sanllehi has pretty much completely taken over on the transfer front since Sven Mislintat’s departure.

If Malcom really is the Spaniard’s preferred target, you’d think he’d push for it as the window runs down and the Wilfried Zaha deal seemingly goes nowhere.
